Nemeses releases “succubus” on good friday

During the week leading up to Easter, after teasing Instagram and Twitter with a series of ambiguously religious posts, Nemeses has officially released his second single, titled “Succubus”, ironically two days before Easter, on Good Friday.

Although just one week after making his debut with “Nothing To Lose”, Nemeses decided to bless the internet with another solid single. The song is a similar style to his first, with a dark R&B aesthetic, capturing the imagery of a toxic relationship. This time around, however, he has brought religion into the story. The instrumental includes a muted acoustic guitar layered over a very rhythmic, catchy drum pattern. The story of the track draws parallels between love and religion, making its release on Easter weekend much more meaningful.

The lyrics are a comparison of the emotions one goes through while involved in a toxic relationship. The subject of the song describes a lover who has mixed feelings towards his partner, who he often feels disguises her evil with her beauty. He feels as if he’s in heaven with her, but knows the situation is more comparable to hell. The track touches on the subjects of loneliness, lust, addiction, and regret, while still being catchy enough to dance along with.
